Satao Camp
I visited Satao Camp for a two night safari in June 2001. The camp more than met my expectations. The bedroom part of the tent was fully enclosed and a member of staff would spray your tent each evening to get rid of any unwanted visitors. The en-suite rustic bathroom was very unexpected. The highlight of my trip was everyone being called from the dining room one evening to have a close encounter with an elephant behind one of the tents. The manager was very informative and hands-on and everyone made you feel very welcome. 10/10 for every aspect of the trip, camp and staff.

Satao Camp
I spent 5 magnificent days at Satao Camp last January. The fun starts right from your view from your tent's veranda while you watch Thomson's gazelles, bushbuck, baboons, buffalo and giraffe. The game drives every day found more exciting finds from elephants, giraffes, Tsavo man-eating lions, dikdiks, zebra, ostrich, etc. The staff of Satao attended to your every whim -you were never left to want for anything. You are away from everything and the sounds of the wilderness were marvelous - just the breeze and the animals. Would I stay there again? You bet, I am going back to Tsavo East and Satao Camp in three weeks for another 5 wonderful days. I would without hesitation recommend this well run place. (An added bonus is Tsavo East isn't as busy some of the other parks so you can really take time to enjoy everything you see). I am told that in Oct - early December, the dry season, the borehole at Satao Camp sees as many as 1,000 elephants every 4 hours!

We stayed at Satao Camp two years ago, and we had a truly wonderful time. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and always on hand to offer more information about the wildlife. We had some wonderful game drives, and it was just as good to get back to the camp afterwards to relax in the peaceful surroundings. Oh! And the food was excellent too!

Satao Camp
We recently stayed at Satao Camp for 2 nights - an experience which I can only recommend everyone should do at least once during their lifetime. Staying in tents with spectacular views of the waterhole and no fence between you and the animals is truly amazing. The camp is well organised, friendly and professional and dining in the restaurant was also a great experience - a true african experience. Courtesy of the night watchman who woke us up at 11.30pm, we were lucky enough to see two lions drinking at the waterhole and watch the interaction of other animals whilst the lions were around. I can definitely recommend staying at Satao camp and will be going for a return visit one day.

Satao Camp
I was a 61 year old woman traveling alone who was fortunate enough to stay at Satao Camp in Jan. 2001 and Jan. 2002. I had never camped before so it was with a little trepidation I considered my stay there. I need not have worried. The camp is situated fairly close (about 10 miles) to Aruba Dam where we went every day elephant watching. From the veranda of your tent you can sit with binoculars and watch the elephants at the borehole. The camp has its own "resident troup" of impala that come into camp every afternoon around 4 p.m. to be protected from lions at night. You are very comfortable in your tent with regular beds and en suite baths. Meals at the dining hall are all very good. Very often lunch will be served out under the trees picnic-style. Tsavo is a marvelous park that more safari companies should use. I saw scenes with elephants in Tsavo that I didn't see in Amboseli. So, if you are an elephant lover as I am, Satao Camp is a must!

We visited Satao last May our 2nd Safari in Tsavo. We were very impressed with the camp, tents brilliant, food great, wildlife superb. We did a sundowner and a bush walk. What memories. My daughter hopes to go to Satao on our next visit to Kenya in just a few weeks time. Kenya what a country, people and wildlife.

it was the most beautiful place we visited during our safari in Kenya. Exciting was the visit of elephants during the night at de "door" of our tent. The hosting by the Jennings family was very good.

We stayed at this camp about two years ago, and it was just fabulous! A brilliant atmosphere, with wonderfully friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, superb surroundings, really good food, and to top it all, the wildlife.....I could just go on and on! We loved it and hope to be back there as soon as possible!

Satao Camp
A really beatiful place with a friendly staff. But the manager was strange. he seemed a bit arrogant. And we were there in the beginning of june and almost all of the game had moved. We saw 1 giraffe and waterbucks and impalas and that was all. But it is a nice camp and the food was good. We stayed there 1 night.

Satao Camp
We stayed at Satao in September 1999. This was our first visit to Kenya and our first safari. Everything about our stay was perfect, from the excellent tent and all its facilities, to the food and teh magnificent game drives. One of the most magical times was after dinner in the evening when if you looked at the sky you could see the whole milky way, I have never seen a sky like it since, even though we have now been to Kenya three times

Satao Camp
I wasn't expecting more than a few relaxing nights away from home. To be completely honest, I was just relishing the prospect of spending some time with my aunt and her daughters, the fact that it was going to be in the 'wild' was only secondary. After all, as a Kenyan, I'd seen all the animals before, hadn't I? My first impression of Satao came from the proprietor, I forget his name but I don't forget how welcoming he was, and off course he will never leave my memory after informing us of the lack of fences around the camp! Nothing but game wardens and common sense to protect us from the wild! Even though we arrived late, we had a hot meal prepared in no time at all for us. From day one, the attention we received at the camp was overwhelmingly first class. The waiters actually looked happy to serve us and were warm and friendly to us at all times, even coming to offer us insights of the wildlife, sparking a keen interest in nature in a Kenyan born and bred girl who thought she had seen it all before. The food? The freshest, tastiest food I have had anywhere. It was difficult to believe we were such a long way from any manner of civilisation, for that matter in the middle of a national park! Our tents, while exhibiting the usual signs of luxury, also lent some wonder to pleasures as ordinary as taking a shower. Our shower consisted of a canvas tank with a cord which we had to pull to release the flow of wonderfully hot water. Our verandah offered a great view of the elephants in the distance...idyllic. I was surprised by the fact that I didn't even miss television. We were never bored. We watched an Artist at work, while He painted the sky with glorious shades of red, orange and pink when the sun set. We watched our world wake up every morning and listened to the latest hits from the birds, delighted in seeing animals as we never had. Spent evenings by the fireside before sitting down to dinner and enjoying the company of gazzelles that decided to join us, albeit from a slight distance, and finally imagined the sounds of lions far off before we drifted off to the land of happy dreams. Satao was perfect.

In January 2004 we organised a private Safari to Tsavo staying a Satao Camp which was simply mesmerising. Walking through herds of Gazelles to get to dinner was simply amazing. Tents Comfortable Staff unfaultable not the same experience at Ngulia which if it had been my first time on Safari l would of been disapointed and would not have returned. I have stayed at Finch Hattens Salt Lick Voi Safari lodge Kilaguni and many in the Masai and regions around there with no complaint from any of the other lodges. We are coming back in January 2005 and REALLY looking forward to it.

Satao Camp
If you build it they will come. That is the idea behind Satao Camp. The owners built a watering hole which attracts wildlife during the day and night. The night viewing is the best. All you have to do is ask to be woken up when the big cats come to drink and the experience will last you a lifetime. Lions will walk right past your tent to get to the watering hole. Only canvas and a zipper seperates you from them. After they are settled, an armed guide will take you to the high rise blind and you can watch their activity. Binoculars are not needed, you are that close. In addition, the elephants of Tsavo are very good. And daily safaris were awesome. I highly recommend a trip there and stay for at least a week.

My son was in Africa for 3 years and recommended this camp when we visited him. It was fabulous. The accommodations were very nice, the food great, and the staff friendly. Lunch was served under a tamarind tree and you were watched by little vervet monkeys. Dinner in the evening was in the dining room. The best part for us was the two watering holes and amount of wildlife. If you never left camp, you could see lots of animals. They came all day and all night to the watering holes. There were many, many elephants and watching them was fascinating. Their behavior was so very interesting. In the evening all the bushbuck and other animals came into camp for the night. We just sat on our patio and watched them just a few feet away. My son wanted us to get a real feel of Kenya and we did. Can't wait to visit again this summer!

My husband and I went to Satao Camp in the middle of February 2006. It was very dry, very hot - our 5th time in East Africa, but never, never have we seen so many elephants in our life. It was an amazing sight to watch approximately 200? of the huge giants each day from our fantastic luxury tent, the "Gala". Lions roaring in the middle of the night, waterbucks, antilopes grazing in the camp, lots of genet cats inside the restaurant, a very friendly staff ( they were willing to let us have one of the "sweet" genet cats if they could just get rid of it ) - not to mention the outstanding chéf ( best food on the Equator!!! ) - we´ll never forget the three amazing nights we spent here - and all the "interesting" sounds.
