Samburu National Reserve
Samburu NR is a truly magical place. A great hidden treasure without the traffic jams of the Maasai Mara, the Reserve had the most amazing landscape I saw in east Africa. The great Ewaso Nyiro river was like a winding oasis among the arid savanna. The palms along the banks look like they come out of a Dr. Seuss book. We saw elephants bathing in the river at sunset, a lioness hunting while her five cubs watched, endangered Grevy's zebra, and a leopard feeding across from Samburu Lodge! Make sure you interact with the local Samburu people, who are so friendly, and with the park management, who i could tell is working hard to ensure the wildlife remains thriving. A must visit!
