Masai Mara Balloon Safari |
|
|
The most wonderful and spiritual experience - lifting off from the dark to a magnificent African sunrise, followed by a 'cruise' over the Mara with the animals below. Accompanied by a discreet and appropriate commentary from Captain Mike McGrath - who was the most endearing and sympathetic host both on landing and supporting the sumptuous and almost bizarre breakfast in the middle of nowhere! An experience of a lifetime! My only regret - no photo of our captain!! Worth every penny! |

Oh my god what an experience, you arrive very early but the adrenaline in your body overrides any fear or tiredness, you lift off with the knowledge that your pilot is a dedicated proffesional.
Flying at low level scathing the tree tops! all the animals take notice of the balloon and react. The elephants Trumpet! the heards of giraffe are a spectacle to embrace as they elegantly run (as if in slow motion)
And the up up and away to three thousand feet, you are looking down at a living map. The landing plans are put into action, "first landing site plan a " Missed that one never mind plan C we gently touched down just on the border of Tanzania welcomed with Champagne and another safari ride back to camp. Wonderful. |

I was lucky enough to take a balloon trip while we were staying at the Mara Serena - I must admit to being disappointed in what we saw from the air - but thats not to say I wouldn't recommend one - I would (especially if you are lucky enough to be there in the migration). The experience of the balloon ride was fantastic, as was the pilot and crew - and champagne breakfast - you also have a game drive back to the hotel after - so that was also good - as you don't feel like you have missed out. I am lucky enough to be returning to Kenya again this year staying at the Sarova Mara (haven't stayed at this camp before) - but I am sure I won't be disappointed. |

Thanks to my brother we joined the balloon flight over the Masai Mara. My brother told us that we are going to visit the Mara river that's why we have to leave very early. In one hour drive we arrived at the balloons and after 15 min. he told us to go with the balloons so we were very suprised. It was a wonderful experience and the Champagne and the breakfast was very nice. |

How better to experience the migration of the wildebeest than seeing it all from a hot air balloon!!! Millions of wildebeest (and zebra) slowly making their way towards the Serengeti. This experience was as exhilirating as the gorilla trek I did a week earlier. When we finally landed, we had brekkie - prepared by a chef - in the middle of the game park (with wildebeest keeping us company). To top off this fantastic morning, our driver heard that there were lions in the vicinity -to our utter amazement, we watched for 30 minutes the incredible mating rituals of a lion and lionness while a lone male lion were eating away on a small wildebeest 20 meters away ... One of the best days in Africa for sure! |

It was excellent . A must see adventure. Early start but worth the effort. Watching the sun come up was beautiful and the breakfast afterwards really good, plenty of champagne! |
