Keekorok Lodge
My wife and I went "on safari" back in 1998, our final lodge being Keekorok (which, I believe, means "black wood"). We had a great time all round, but our undying memories are of John Namaru Ole Tome, the Masai Warrior at Keekorok. His evening discourse on the peoples of the Masai was fascinating to say the least, and we came away genuinely feeling that we had learnt something of true value. The strangest episode was that, after driving back to Nairobi (five and a half hours!), we were enjoying a pre-dinner drink at The Landmark Hotel (formerly The Jacaranda), when into the bar walked Ole Tome ! He'd flown there from the air-strip at Keekorok - forty minutes!! I can't really single out any particular lodge - they were all great, but Keekorok did have that something special about it. We're going back on safari this November (2002), visiting Keekorok yet again. Unfortunately, my research shows that Ole Tome isn't there any more, so we're pretty disappointed. Perhaps someone will know where he is, though. If they do know, perhaps they could email me before November 2nd. Jambo !!!

We have just returned from safari and spent a couple of nights at keekorok. The lodge was great with good standard accomodation and excellent facilities. The hippo pool was a really neat place to spend a few hours and pork chop the tame warthog made a really cool feature!

I had the most fantastic and romantic 10 day experience of staying at Keekorok Lodge in mid 1972. It is great to find you on the web, and to have this chance of saying hi and thanks. Although she will have long since retired (but I hope still alive and well), the Lodge's then Manageress, a Norewegian lady named Mrs Ringberg, was a saint to two stranded hitch-hiker Kiwi lads after their vehicle crashed in the Masai Mara game reserve. If I could say thank you by once again visiting your beautiful world I would, but that must remain in the hands of my Lord Jesus who I now serve. In the meantime, I pray that your Lodge and staf, will be greatly blessed through the opportunity you have, of being a window to God's creative beauty, for so many who find it difficult to see the truth until they have the chance live it. Thank you for the wonderful memories I still have of your paradise. Kindest Regards Russell Ford.

I spent 2 wonderful weeks at Keekorok Lodge while staying with a friend and getting to know the staff from behind the scenes. I highly recommend spending more than a day or two at Keekorok. The hospitality and friendly staff make the stay wonderful along with the surrounding plains and abundance of wildlife. The sundowners are unforgettable, the experience was over the top for me. Keekorok is an exceptional place to let Africa happen all around you. The staff are warm, welcoming and extremely friendly! I loved it there!

We stayed here while on a safari holiday last month. A wonderful place, a true oasis in the Mara - where the staff and accomodation were wonderful! Even the sound of the Hippo's at night were amazing, and not to mention 'Pork Chop' the resident warthog! I would go again tomorrow!!

Stayed here for one night as part of our safari. The grounds are amazing and the rooms comfortable. Food very good (including for veggies). Don't miss out on the raised walkway down to the hippo bar. There are usually 1/2 dozen hippos in the pond. Also, don't forget to say hello to Pork Chop the tame warthog who behaves like a dog (she drinks from the swimming pool and likes her tummy tickled. She's also not adverse to falling asleep on your feet!). The setting for this hotel is wonderful. Highly recommended.

We highly recommend Keekorok Lodge if you are traveling to the Masai-Mara. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the food is great and the accommodations are well equipped and very comfortable. The grounds and pool are beautiful and well cared for. The lodge itself is warm and inviting and beautifully decorated. Meeting Porkchop was a real treat. Definitely worth a return trip!

This lodge is an exciting place especially at night as you sit in the bar having a dring while the Zebra graze only a hundred yards away. The Hippo pool is brilliant and I would certainly recomened it to anyone.

Keekorok Lodge was one of the lodges we stayed at during our safari around Kenya. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The staff were very friendly, the food was lovely and we even had a visit from the lodge's friendly pet wart hog - pork chop. I would recommend this as a must stop.

It was our first time on Safari. The keekorok was evrything that we could have wanted. As we are vegetarian we feared not being able to eat in our usual style, but that was not to be a worry. Everything was perfect in a perfect environment. Food great, cleanliness second to none and always a smile from the Kenyan workers....jambo.....until nex year.
