Really friendly atmosphere. Good accommodation albeit on the small size.
Hippo's are fabulous in the river and noisy in the morning.
Marco and Milton were our safari guides and in 2 days we saw the BIG 5
We had a great time. (by the way we didn't see a mosquito)

It was almost dark by the time we reached the lodge and it was lovely to be greeted by the masai warriors plus a cool welcome drink and a refresher towel (which was a godsend, considering how dusty we were after the game drive).
The lodge is so very serene....esp at dawn. The normal amenities that you would expect in the rooms were not there (such as a telephone, a mini fridge or a tv) but it gives you the feeling of being cut out of the stresses of normal life. It's very relaxing.
Food's excellent. No two words about it :)
One word of warning though......hippos come on to the premises. I learnt that the hard way - i met one at 4 am!
It was certainly the experience of a lifetime!
(We were at the lodge on the 4th and 5th of January, 2006) |

We had a fabulous time at the David Livingstone Safari Lodge. The facilities, staff and the ambience all contributed to our great experience of the African Bush.

the lodge and game drives offered a majestic and almost dream like experiance. Coupled with the friendly staff and tranguil sounds of the hippos wallowing in the river bend situated less than a camara click away from the lodges viewing platform, offered a unforgettable experiance. This lodge will offer you nostalgic memories that will haunt your dreams of a wild africa that will last for months, with an almost primal urdge to return again and again! |

We had the joy of a superb driver/guide called Dixon for the duration of our stay and he really set a high standard for any guides. I hope he is fit and well nowadays.
The night drive was fantastic, with compulsive viewing of the lioness's hunting skills, and the daytime activities of young cheetahs and scavenging hyenas.
The managers, chefs and all the staff at the Lodge were efficient, courteous, knowlegable and cheery.
The Mara is a wondewrful experience, and provided us with one of the best safari experiences we have had. |

I've been there in August 2005. It is a highly reccomended lodge due to it's location. The lodge is built only a few meters away from Mara river and that means that you can see hippos and crocodiles in a very short distance not only from the dinning area but also from your room's window.
It's not a luxury lodge, rooms have an old colonial style but are descent end clean. After all wildlife viewing and not luxury is what you seek there.
Food is very good, appropriate for western style appetite! but be aware of monkeys! They seat in nearby treebranches during the meals and if they find an opportunity they come down fast to steal bread and fruits from the buffet or even your plate!
Don't forget to do a night game. The lodge offers night games (50$ per person) but it is worth every penny.
Even if you don't see any predator (which is impossible in this area) the whole feeling beeing outside in the wild during the night when all animals are active is beyond any description. I personaly saw live, lions hunting topi about 1 km away from the lodge during my night game!
In our last day there, during departure from the lodge, we saw a half eaten zebra (head was missing) only 100meters away from lodge's front gate.
As you see this place is a must have for those who seek adventure, adventure and...more adventure!

Only stayed one night but it was really good. Staff were very friendly and room was immaculate. Views of the hippos were great. Drinks seemed slightly pricey but that could have been because we had been staying at an all inclusive resort. Food was great, and the bush babies seemed to like it too!. Well worth a visit. |

Great place. We took our son and a friend ( 9 and 12) there a couple of years ago. They really enjoyed it, especially the cultural activities laid on by Fred, who was cultural officer at the time. Saw leopard, lion, elephant, giraffe and also African hare on the night drive. |

I recently went to the David Livingstone Safari Resort having booked it from the local operators in Mombasa for a 2 night air safari. We were greeted at the Airstrip with chilled towels, a GLASS OF CHAMPAGNE, and Masai Dancers. Every moment of our stay there was a pure pleasure. Our driver Dickson and guide Johna were extremely knowledgable and gave us a great experience. The food was fantastic. To top it all, I forgot my 5000 Euro Watch there and am happy to advise that the owner of the lodge had it sent to me personally through my tour operator. |

If you dream of the 'real' Africa, but are (or have family) unwilling to sacrifice the basics - 4 course meals, en-suite facilities etc ! - then this is the place to go. Cocktails or meals overlooking the Hippo's in the river, while a monitor lizard suns itself 10 yrds away, and weaver birds return to their nests nearby - is the perfect way to relax after your game drive. Wildlife spotting starts at your door, literally. Bush Babies and monkeys trying their luck in the restaurant, Baboons 'picknicking' behind the kitchen, and Zebra & Gazelle grazing outside the entrance - Then you go out to 'see the animals'! Whilst other lodges offer three drives, there are only two per day here - but they are most of morning and evening. This enables you to see much more and relax between drives. Our driver (John Kinga) had 40 yrs experience - and it showed. With 4 - 6 heads outside the vehicle at most times, he was still the first to spot most. We seemed to drive from viewing to viewing the way you would go from store to store in a mall, and missed (almost) every pothole & rut.
Facilities, food, bar staff were excellent - Waiters arrogant and slow. Luckily you only need them for the soup and help yourself from a well -balanced, varied, cooked and presented - buffet. Make sure you get a table allocated to you when you book in and just sit there for each meal regardless of what the waiter wants you to do. Given the range and quality of the buffet - who needs soup temperature tested by their thumb anyway ?
Think of an inside out zoo, where you are in the enclosure and the animals wander past - without throwing stale buns or pulling faces - and you can imagine staying at this lodge. |

In August my husband, two children and myself travelled to Kenya for the first time, staying for one week at Watamu and the second at Shanzu. In the 2nd week we booked our 3 day, 2 night safari to the Masai Mara staying at the David Livingstone Lodge. We highly recommend it, the accomodation was lovely, we had an interconecting room with very comfortable beds! The food was very good and the views or the Mara river are divine.
The game drives are wonderful, Simon our driver was amazing, he drove off of the beaten track allowing us to get up close and personnal with all of the big 5! |

Out of Africa, more like out of this world!!! Safari was unbeatable, saw the big 5 and so much more. Food was delicious, accomodation was more than adequate, setting was unrivalled with hippos wallowing in the waters around the lodge. Masai tribe was a humbling experience, they are less fortunate in material ways but so rich in family culture, compassion and dignity. The experience has left a mark on my soul. I intend to go back and help these wonderful people as soon as is possible. |
