The most popular local sport in Kenya is soccer, which is locally known as "football", or "mpira" in Swahili.
Internationally, Kenya is renowned for its long distance marathon runners such Kip Keino, Andrew Musuva, Gideon Mutisya, Veronica Kanga, Moses Tanui, Joseph Chebet and many more.
Boxing is another popular local sport and the annual Kenya Safari Rally, which draws international drivers to compete on African soil and terrain.
The Kenya cricket team has also gained international fame. Kenya reached the semi-finals at the Cricket World Cup 2003.
