Mombasa - Kenya Diving Overview



Mombasa, a coral island off the coast of Kenya, has beautiful coral reef and marine life; this makes the whole experience of diving and snorkeling awesome. Mombasa's marine life has been a center of discussion for European marine biologists because of its increasing number of new fish species and corals being documented, and particularly because of the marine environment still being intact. There are currently around 250 varieties of marine fishes, and over 40 varieties of coral species documented at Kisite Marine Park And Mpunguti Marine Reserve.


Zanzibar Island Diving

Diving Overview



There are many interesting reefs around the islands of Zanzibar, featuring shallow rocky areas that suddenly drop off into vertiginous crevasses, 40 meters deep. With steep walls covered in colorful sponges and Gorgonia, one may find such diverse life as Brittlestars, Langoustines, and Moray Eels. Some reefs are like undersea mountains, wreathed with seaweeds and corals, and teeming with colorful fish. Angel Fish and Clown fish glide like shadows through the sun dappled abyss, and schools of Barracuda flick their tails and slide off into the deep. Groupers can often be sighted here, as can Pipe Fish and Crocodile fish. Moray eels writhe in dark canyons between the Purple Gorgonia and Precious Red Corals, and Sea Horses hover on shimmering light above tall pinnacles. One may also be lucky enough to have close encounters with large schools of Hammerhead Sharks, Manta Rays and curious Dolphins.


Mafia Island Diving

Diving Overview



Mafia Island is a prominent world-class diving destination with some of the richest reefs in the world, with a supreme variety of hard and soft corals and diversity of tropical fish. Extraordinary dive sites at Mafia offering shallow reefs of colossal beauty and richness, bommies, channels, walls and caves. Chole Bay has a variety of excellent dives within the Bay that is accessible in almost any weather. The diversity of marine life is hard to match, with over 50 genera of corals and 400 species of fish so far identified; There are excellent examples of giant table corals, delicate seafans, whip corals, and huge stands of blue-tipped staghorn corals. Large predatory fish and turtles are common and surprisingly unaffected by approaching divers.


Pemba Island Diving

Pemba Island is located off the Tanzanian coast, and is adjacent to the Island of Zanzibar. The guests are accommodated at Manta Reef Lodge. Not only is this Island known for its awesome dive sites but also its peaceful location. Pemba waters give divers and snorkels an incredible experience because all locations have generous amounts of multi-colored fishes and corals displayed. The Pemba channel runs deep until it approaches the coastline, and then begins a dramatic assent to create sheer walls off the coast. The western side of the island is the leeside, where visibility remains between 100 - 200 feet. The walls and drop off, which are directly off the coastline, drop between 150 - 600 feet, all which make Pemba an excellent diving opportunity. Commonly found marine lives are: - Napolean wrasse, pelagic fish, famous Manta rays, turtles and sharks.
